Clear-WAV™ Delivers Signal Consistency in a Mobile Environment

Mobile Data Collection Factors

Barcode, RFID Tag, and Antenna Orientation. In a mobile environment, the orientation of barcodes and RFID tags is never 100% consistent. As the hand-held scanner orientation changes to accommodate the orientation of the barcode or RFID tag, it will often experience an interruption in connectivity to the wireless network. The primary cause of this interruption is that the scanner antenna and the access point antenna polarizations become unaligned.

  • Luxul’s family of X-WAV™ antennas uses Circular Polarization (CP) for more efficient signal propagation. Rather than broadcasting on a single horizontal or vertical plane, CP broadcasts in both planes in a circular, cork-screw rotation. A CP signal connects equally well with either vertical or horizontally polarized antennas (or anything in between), eliminating connectivity problems and allowing for consistent, uninterrupted coverage regardless of the tag and scanner orientation.


Dead Spots. Some areas within the coverage zone experience poor coverage due to interference or physical obstructions—like the area between trucks or trailers, or areas that are behind walls, shelves, or containers.

  • Circular Polarization (CP) Antenna signals can more easily penetrate through obstructions than linear polarized waves. Unlike linear waves, CP waves do not cancel each other out as outgoing and incoming signals collide with one another. Multipath problems are also negated with CP waves.


Access Point Overkill. Large warehouses, distribution and transit facilities, stockyards, and manufacturing plants typically require many access points to ensure complete coverage. Adding access points not only adds unnecessary cost, it also introduces additional network complexity, channel overlap and more interference. Using fewer access points minimizes this problem.
